I really don't think so. The only way you could convert to using a type 1 muffler would be to use type 1 heat exchangers (the lower ones) and type 1 lower cooling tin. The type 1 muffler might still hit the intake bellows. I don't know. I have seen some Canadian made mufflers which looked like this: made of round tube, but mine had a thermal wrapping rather than the little separate heat shield as shown in this photo.
