every couple of months my idle starts to creep up, this last time it was at 2000 rpm consistently. i have traced the problem to the auxiliary air regulator on the block (1970, stock FI). it seems to slowly bind itself stuck in the open position. sometimes it closes when the the engine gets REALLY warm, but most of the time it stays open. i took the cover plate off when the engine was warm and pushed on the little pin to free it and it seemed to fall about a 1/16" and snap closed. i don't think it should have any axial play, right? i have cleaned it before and oiled it but it seems to keep binding up after a while. i'm guessing that these *never* fail, or at least not very often so what else can i do? perhaps i do need a new one. any suggestions? thanks. nathan 70 fastback FI ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
