If this is a 70 or later with the rear mount crossbar, the first street elbow will need to be ground away on the rear corners to clear the bar, and maybe the fan housing. I have a drawing showing how the crossbar must be modified if you have it. Where the oil goes back into the case you use 3 street elbows. Take your time and play with the orientation of each of them and you can get them to clear the fan housing without even touching the fan housing. In the end, both the inlet and outlet nipples should point straight to the left. Where you mount the filter is up to you, but I like to mount it from the crossbar. That way it gets installed on the bench and goes in and out with the engine. This gives a very neat installation. You can use this on early cars if you convert to a late case and add the crossbar just for this purpose. Working out the plumbing over the crossbar is tough, but Dave Hall took some pictures of my installation in my basement. Those should be on the CD that Jason is getting ready right now. In fact, you can see all the fittings in Dave's pictures. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
