Re: [T3] I Just Want to CRY!

<x-flowed>MAAAN that is terrible hope you can make out with the insurance company.

Now is the time for us all to check out our policies and use this as a lesson.

As far as Phoenix is concerned American Family is the only company that will issue "true" stated value policies. One that you can use your car as a daily driver AND have your value of your vehicle protected.

Allot other insurance agents will not write them because they are a rip off for their customer even though the company they represent offers it.
A "stated value" can mean: The insurance company does not have to pay over the amount stated in the policy. In others words say if your stated value is say $9500 and your car is totaled. The adjuster says it's only worth $500 according to his books, all you get is $500. The rip off is you paid extra for a worthless policy. You might as well got liability and saved money. Don't be fooled many major company's are writing these junk policies. Don't take my word for it, talk to your local body shop verify what I say. They would love to fix your car, but this kind of thing happens many many times.

If you THINK you got as good and real stated value policy double check.
Here's what to do:

1. Send to your insurance agent, not his office a certified return receipt letter stating. "I understand that my policy #000-0000-0000 will pay me in the event of a total loss $9500. I if this is not true, please write me a policy for my 1965 VW Squareback VIN #1123456 that will. If this is true there is no need to respond."

2. If your agent writes another policy, follow up with another certified return receipt letter stating. "I understand that my policy #000-0000-0000 will pay me in the event of a total loss $9500. I if this is not true, please write me a policy for my 1965 VW Squareback #123456 that will. If this is true there is no need to respond."

3. If the agent does not respond, you are legaly covered. Save your return receipts and copies of your letters. They are legal documents to show that you were properly covered in court.

I know this does little for the guy that got his car smashed, but lets learn from it. May save hassle in the future

Bob
