<x-flowed>i suppose it is possible to burn through if you have rust damage that 
has weakened/perforated the tube...  but normally that is spotted 
before this procedure and at that point you'd weld or replace the whole 
manifold, anyway.

i've done this myself once with a bug manifold. it's kid of fun 
actually.
