<x-flowed>to clear the heat risers from their carbon buildup we used to do this
in the shop:
- create at least a small passage through if it is totally clogged, use
something like thick wire to push through
- using a acetylene torch, ignite the carbon by holding the flame into
the exhaust inlet on one side for a little while
- once the carbon is glowing pump pressurized air through the heat
riser from the end where the carbon is glowing
the goal here is to "burn off" all the deposits inside. if everything
goes OK the flame/glow will wander all the way from one end to the
other, driven by the pressurized air. the burnt residue, if it has not
come out already with the air, is much easier to shake/hammer out.
