I THINK it should be there. Perhaps you can check with a magnet to see if it has been covered over with Bondo. The threaded insert actually consists of a large thin hex nut spot-welded to the inside of the doorskin. Fastys of that era came with a plastic plug pressed into that spot, painted to match the car.
