im so furious, im seeing red!!!! First off I bought this car last year in Nov. from original owners, car has absolutely no rust. Car wasnt running when I bought it, i replaced 6 V battery (interstate) and the fuel pump, and the #3 wire. Bingo shes off and running. I've had only one other VW and that was a '68 sunroof T1, this cars pan was thrashed especially the battery area. So from my previous experience i checked the battery area on my notch, nothing but a pinhole, and i repeat just a small microscopic pin hole under the battery. So before i installed new one I put down some thick plastic (just because i guess). well im restoring this car, i remove all the seats and notice that the neg. post on battery has that white powdery stuff. I pull the battery, and, aaaaahhhhhh, I see swiss cheese on a German car..... I cant believe this, not even for a minute. What in the world happened? this car has survived since sept. '62 when it was made 'til i got my hands on it. Where did i go wrong? was it the battery? the plastic i placed under it? something wrong w/ my car that made the battery leak from top? keep in mind i hadnt been driving this car much at all. can i just tack weld these spots? dont tell me i need to replace the pan... were not talking major swiss cheese but one is almost a quarter size. this is maddening, im seeing only red and im blaming myself. can someone steer me in the right direction, from the original owners files on the car i have noticed them replacing the battery an awful lot, and yes they had the gen. rebuilt. they bought around 9 batterys within a two year span. Any and all info is greatly appreciated. thanx for letting me vent, Robert '63 notch w/new self inflicted swiss cheese ;o( __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
