<x-charset iso-8859-1>WOW! I had alot of carbon build up under the intake valves when I did my last valve job... not this bad and not on the head but just the valve. I do have and had working thermostat linkage and most of my driving is highway. My old boss at the garage suggested occationally using marvel mystery oil to prevent this... I have tried this and will see when the heads come off again in a few years. Im my case, the buildup cut the low end off the motors HP curve. BTW... one head is fly-cut or a 7.7:1 head and the other is a 7.2:1 stepped head :) Keith Keith Park Top Notch Restorations topnotch@nycap.rr.com 71 Squareback 65 Notchback 65 Squareback 75 Opel 87 Golf 88 Rx7 10th Anniversary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Russ wolfe" <russella@prairieinet.net> To: <type3@vwtype3.org> Sent: Sunday, September 15, 2002 10:11 PM Subject: Re: [T3] my heads > On Sun, 2002-09-15 at 21:04, Russ wolfe wrote: > > I tore down a set of dual port heads to rebuild for my new engine.
