Dumps the extra gas into the throat on the tilt up plus acceleration. I know fuel starvation is the popular line (and I expect that's what it is), but hey, why not be different? When mine didn't pick up from running slowly I assumed a weak mixture, but a CO test showed it was too rich, and a mixture screw adjustment (or two) did the trick. OTOH the channel by the main jet could hold a lot of muck (or even a small piece) and be enough to temporarily block the jet. The balance pipes can help out surprisingly well at higher rpm. Dave.
