Ever since I put Sophy's engine back together she has been running poorly. To refresh your memories, I had #2 exhaust vavle receeding, so I pulled the head nad checked it, lapped the cylinders in for better sealing and checked the 3/4 side as well. I fiddle with my oil lines for the full flow and swapped the mag fan housing for my 12 volt one in preparation for a possible future 12 volt conversion. The only other thing I changed was the spark plugs, from Champion RL87YC to Bosch Platinum WR8AP. Ever since she has had a popping through the exhaust on the 3/4 side. Well I fiddle with it tonight. Cleaned the carbs and reset them and still she pops and rattles around. I pulled the #3 spark plug lead and the engine did not change RPM or sound. Even when I rev'd it a bit. #4 caused a bit of engine RPM drop, but not enough to kill the engine. Both 1 and 2 would kill the engine when I pulled them. I also noticed that the tin on the 3/4 side was not very hot, while the 1/2 tin was. I crawled undereath and #3 cylinder was cool enough to leave my fingers on it. #4 was a bit hotter. 1/2 were both hot. Couldn't keep my fingers on them. I pulled the plugs and checked the resistance from the top post to the center electrode. #3 Bosch Platinum was about 4 ohms and #1 and #2 were over 1000. The foruth is still in the engine. I checked a couple of old Bosch W8AC that I had laying around and they measured 1 ohm. So were the Champions. Do I have bad plugs? Should I go back to the Champions? I don't have a complete set of the old W8ACs. I only have three. What else could it be? I did check the compression on #3 and it was 115 psi. I am at a loss. ANy ideas anyone? Any one out there tonight? I really need to get her back on the road by morning for work. Thanks.
