<x-charset windows-1252>Well, my engine is back together and running. I am on borrowed time however. I need a new head. Upon closer inspection, it looks like I ground the seat for #2 exhaust valve off center a bit. This has led to the guide wearing and the valve pounding out the seat. I did the valve job myself using three separate (15, 45 and 75 degree) carbide cutters. I remember having a difficult time getting the cutter guide pin into one of the guide. Could easily be this one. Not sure. What I have done is reassembled both heads with the stock springs and put it all back together. I know it is not the best solution, but I need to be able to drive the car until I can get a new head and do the valve job and stuff. Hopefully only a week or two. Risky, I know, but....... BTW, the Hi-Rev springs that I had in there were at least 3/8" longer (uncompressed) than the stock springs. Also the wavy pattern on the cylinder to head mating surface that lead to my blow-by problem. It was in the head surface, not the cylinder. I lapped the cylinder surface on a plate of glass and it cleaned up all nice and flat. I then used the cylinder to lap in the head surface. This took a bit more doing. I had resurfaced the heads using Berg's flycutter and fixtures on a large drill press. I obviously got some tool chatter. I did pull and check the other head (and to install the stock valve springs) and it was fine. No blow-by and new receeding valves. Also I have the stock adjsuters in. Decided not to monkey around with all the geomtry changes necessary for the swivel feet adjusters. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I don't drop that valve........
