In the section of the Bill Fisher book, as well as in Bergs head flowing paper, 
they point out that grinding off that protrusion around the valve guide in the 
exhaust port, is counterproductive. I'd be worried that this may have reduced 
heat flow from the hottest part of that guide and might increase wear there.

Apparently it also reduces flow, a very counterintuitive result, I agree.
