Wow! I think out of many hundreds of f.i. cars owned by
listees over the years, yours is only the second confirmed ecu
failure that I can recall. The other is Mark Fuhriman's '69 Fastback
-- I think it was some intermittent trouble when cold, not a total
failure.
While it's certainly not impossible for the brain to fail, it
seems to be very rare -- and there have been many cases where
perfectly good brains have been replaced (expensively) by mechanics
who were diagnosing by the "let's have the customer replace this
expensive part and see what happens next" method.
As with other f.i. parts, it's good insurance to stock up on
cheap spares at swap meets or from places like ebay.
