The shorter one (2610mm) is listed in the Parts book as for M236 and M236/249 from chassis 318 000 001. The longer one (2670mm) is listed as for models 311-314; 343-346; 361-364 including M249 (auto, twin carb presumably) from 318 015 226 (could that be when the FI came out I wonder?). You had me worried for a while there, and I've checked all 5 of my spare cables. I thought they were all the same for my late Type 3s, and when I measured the one in the spares box I carry in the (twin carb) Variant it was the shorter one (2610mm), but when I checked out the 4 others I have, I found 3 of them are 2670mm (well, maybe two are 2665mm really) and the 4th is another 2610mm. That ties in with the Type 3s I've scrapped over the years (3 twin carb and 2 FI). It's surprising what comes to light when we start digging deep into parts lists etc. My copy of ETKA (no doubt hacked from the Russian site) shows a completely different one for the twin carb models, with a 112 number and 20mm shorter, so I don't have a lot of confidence in ETKA. I shall now put the one of longer length in the Type 3 spares box and label them! I've never had a cable break or show excessive wear, but John's car has a few years seniority over the ones these came from, and maybe lots more miles. John, you're more than welcome to one of these twin carb cables if you can't get one from a closer source. Just send me a postal address - I owe you a favour anyway! Dave.
