Well, in my quest to get the '66 back on the road, I'm WAY deep into the dash and electrical components. As per my other post re:contact and terminal cleaning, I am cleaning all the electrical contacts on the car. I had to pull the ignition lock to have it re-keyed which necessitated removing the steering column, which led to finding out why the speedo and clock lights were not working. This led to fuse box removal, and guage/clock removal and cleaning. The light sockets were so corroded that the grounds would not pass enough current to even light a bulb! In all the removing, I've managed to break off two terminals from the bakelite panel attached to the fuel/ind./Warning gauge (heretofore to be known as the FIW gauge) :-( It got too dark to really check it out to see if things can be fixed or soldered. Will it be easier to just see if someone has one than try and fix it? I was a bit shocked when the back of the guage just unplugged itself from the guage simplifying the removal...those VW engineers where really thinking when they designed these things! So, anyone have an extra bakelite panel or entire complete working FIW guage? This is for a '66 T3 Thank you!
