Lots of heat is the only way I've heard, but usually of course you cut the muffler off so the nuts can be tackled using a Bus 45mm socket. The open-ended version isn't always up to undoing really, but is helpful to tighten after aligning on the car. Undo them before the car has been left too long! Dave.
