I'm really tickled that I thought of the wheel bearing problem. The bearing change was a mid year 68 change so my previous experience was with an early 68, but there should be no reason for someone to get it wrong on an earlier year. > B&S's couldn't provide one so if anyone has a scrap 5-lug front end or a > bunch of old VW bolts laying around, I *really* want an original bolt. Even I would not be adverse to replacing that bolt with a suitable bolt of the proper grade. Keep in mind that VW might well have used bolts from various sources, too. What is the proper grade? This is likely to be an important bolt, and the fact that it is M10 x 1.0 makes this even more clear. Does this bolt pass thru the steering arm on the backside of the backing plate? - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
