I can't remember what we've already talked about, but my second engine rebuild was very short lived because I found that all the valves were "recessing" consistently. I finally tore it down again and found that, as Gene Berg had predicted, the cheap cam followers I had used were wearing quickly.) They were too soft (Berg had said so, and I confirmed this on a Rockwell hardness tester.) All I did was replace the lifters with good ones and everything was fine after that. Is it possible that you reused the old lifters and might one of those be a cheap replacement? Unfortunately I know of no way to tell by just looking at them. I think Berg sells single lifters, or I might be able to come up with a good used one, although I usually just replace them with good new ones and I may have recycyled all my old ones. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
