Jim, I have heard from alot of Baja runners that the 3/4 inch reach > plug hole is more robust and resists cracking than any stock 1/2 > inch reach head. The heat in this area dissipates more efficiently > and evenly. These are not crackproof but so far the people I know > have not heard anyone cracking the new Mexican heads and some drive those heavy fully loaded baja things with hard tops. I noticed that the exhaust valves on the unmodified VW Mexican heads have very thick stems, way thicker than it's tip and much thicker than the intake,s valve stem, is this what you are talking about ? I have noticed that the cast flashing cleaned up better than the original German heads and cooling seems enhanced around the exhaust valves but the exhaust and intake runners seem smaller than original German ones to acheive that but they can be opened up a little , I guess that is what the Buggypatch does.
