ok, I got the cooler out and by closely examining the seals and comparing them to the old ones here are the differences: 1- the old seals seem to be assymetrical, with the side mating with the engine oil ports having an O.D of 17mm and collar depth of @4mm equalling that of the oil port's counter sink. The side mating with the oil cooler has a very small collar height of 1mm. the flange O.D is 24mm. 2- The new replacement seal is symetrical with a collar O.D of 17mm and depth of 2mm. The flange O.D is 23mm. Furthermore, the old seal still seats better on the case's oil port than the new one. My conclosions are that: The 1mm diff. in flange O.D is due to tightening compression. That the diff. in collar depth facing the case oil ports is preventing the seal from seating properly and is causing the oil to flow under the seal. Does that make any sense? and, do I have the wrong seals causing the engine to blow the oil somewhere else? ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
