Okay, I checked further and it appears you are right and the Beck-Arnley catalog is wrong. Late beetle fronts and type 3 rears are both 248.1mm dia x 45mm wide. The 9-27/64" width is the closest to being correct. The type 3 number above was just plain wrong. Thus it seems likely that if you can find a set of front shoes for a late beetle that have the parking brake slots in them they probably started out their life on a type 3 rear.
