You can get neat fuel entering a cylinder and causing a hydraulic lock in it, and the starter can't turn the engine. We had that happen on a '64 Squareback, after which the garage fitted the electro-magnetic cut-off valves. Someone else who had done the same tried to start it on the clutch and bent a con-rod. Dave.
