Hmmm, I see what you mean, but I'm surprised that the hard line is long enough to reach up beyond the end of the tank. I don't remember it being this way and I don't understand why it should have been made like this. After all, the threaded fitting on the underside is about 1" long and the hard tube would be fine if it were only half that long, thus remaining recessed below the bottom of the tank (where I would expect it.) Okay, I just ran down to the basement and grabbed an old sock/hardline/nut assembly. The distance from the bottom face of the nut to the top of the tube is longer than I expected to find: 29mm. If you crawl under your tank you can tell us how far up this leaves the tube end. This one LOOKS like it was also sticking up like you say. I never noticed this before.
