<x-charset iso-8859-1>Poor Sophy really needs to go to the metal due to the condition of her existing paint. Youd be surprized how easy it is to strip the paint off with a good quality automotive stripper... you need to do this OUTSIDE but you save all that sanding and chip filling. The down points... sometime you uncover existing bodywork that was hidden and now it will need to be done again, and you cant leave the metal bare for long so a spray setup to at least get a good quality primer on is necessary. Paint time is an excellent time to get all the fenders off and deal with any hidden rust under them, you may be nearly through the metal and not know it... only to see your new paint bubbling in months, we know where they rust... and these areas are easy to check with the fenders off. Keith > Having said that I will be getting Sophy a cheapy paint job (In the original VW Blue) this winter. I will remove most of the exterior trim bits and do lots of the masking and bodywork myself. I just don't have the facilities to spray it. > > Just my 3 cents worth. > > Later, > John Jaranson > '71 FI Auto Fasty (Jane) > '66 Square (Sophy) - daily driver > About Half a late Square (Organ Donor) > http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jaransonT3/jaransonT3 > > > ------------------------------------------------ > To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> > For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/ > ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/ </x-charset>
