Hugh Lawrence has been asking me a question off list which I was not at first able to answer. The question was: On a 72 FI AT there are two 7mm air hoses which connect to the Intake air distributor just in front of and just behind the throttle valve. These 2 hoses then join in a Tee, but where does the 3rd leg of the Tee go? I finally found the answer in my Elfrink FI manual, and it is likely that my 73 FI AT is plumbed like this, but It's been so long since I had to touch it that I just didn't remember this feature. It appears that VW changed the way that the AT vacuum modulator got its signal for the 72-3 ATs, which use a different VM, governor, and valve body. Does anyone know what this 2-port setup does differently from the simpler early version? It makes me wonder if one of my 2 drillings might be plugged and if this might be the cause of the poor 2-3 shift that this car has always done. Can anyone shed any light on this? - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
