Yeah, that's a great suggestion -- but I don't want to do it that way. :)

It was more fun to figure out how to get all of the authentic old gauges to work. I put a 12V clock's winder into red-needle a 6V clock. I modified the internals of a 6V gas gauge to work under 12v -- though I prefer the newer indicator light lenses with the icons and letters, so I put the older gas gauge subunit into the '69's gauge body. I'm going to continue with the authenticity theme by using an authentic speedo, too.

I decided to go with a 90mph speedo instead of a 100mph speedo. I know that the 100mph early speedo is considered cool due to the S/dual carb/sportiness factor, but I like how every decade is marked on the 90mph unit. I also don't ever go over 90, so I don't need the 100mph scale.
