I thought it was an automatic thing as ALL of the other American cars I've ever owned did this too. What I'm meaning is that they drop about 250 to 350 RPMS when put in gear. It does make setting the idle a chore though on a type3 with carbs, don't know if its the same with FI. I really don't have any knowledge of working on a FI type3 as all my time is with carbs.
