The May 2002 Total VW magazine (UK) has an article on a '64 1500S that has
been completely restored with a two tone paint job, and it has pictures
showing how the two paints are joined. It also says in the article:

"Taking care to get it just right, reference was made to various surviving
two-tone examples, and it was noted that whereas the 'N' or base-model
featured a simple straight cut off line between the roof shade and the main
body colour, the 'S' delighted in a much more graceful 'curved' line of
paint, as can be evidenced in Colin Burnham's book 'Classic Volkswagens',
where an unrestored example is prominently photographed on page 64."

If you would like a scan of the pictures that show how the two tone paint
joins, just let me know.
