I just didn't want you to rush to judgment on the one you have right now, expecially since it is a very early car which still has its original engine. I have resurrected many cars that were said to be "shot" just by finding out what the real problems were and fixing them. I once bought a car from a VW shop for $50 after they told me "that car will never drive again." 40 minutes later I drove it out of their parking lot and home. Sure it needed work, but the real problem was that they had not bothered to figure out what the trouble was. You probably won't have much luck finding another engine that early, at least not one in good condition. If you could find a close serial # that you could rebuild, then that would be practical. Unless you need this car as a daily driver, however, I'd encourage you to rebuild the complete matching engine that you already have, especially since you already have the experience and knowhow to do this. I also want to encourage you to make SURE this engine needs the work before you put a lot of effort into a repair or replacement. I just don't want to see you waste your time or money. OTOH, if this is something that you want to do because you enjoy it, then do so and have fun! ;-) As for replacement engines, I believe you should be able to install any 6V type 3 engine in your car without significant modifications. Just make sure you get all the parts with your new engine, especially the generator, distributor, exhaust, carbs, air cleaner and air intake ducts. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
