OK... It may have been too hot and dusty for me to crawl under Brians car but I did stick my camcorder under there and.... IT AINT THAT LOW :-) Correct me if Im wrong but it looks like your car is down one notch... this will bring your caster to about Zero in stock application. However... as we all know, Brians Notch isnt stock... the rear suspension geometry is different and perhaps most importantly the whole weight ratio of the car is different with the mid engine. Reinforcements under the floor bring the ratio even farther forward. So, did you get luckey?? probably! but I think there may be a couple of other things at work here. 1) most people have never ridden in a Type 3 where everything is correct. These cars have all sagged down over the years and few have received a good reconditioning.... so how good is good? most simply dont know. 2) On smooth roads with little wind a lowered Type3 can feel rather stable... depending on alot of things of course. Most are so enamored by the fact that there is much less body roll (because your riding on the bump stops) and how it seems to hug the corners that they dont worry so much about ride and stability. When I drove Brians Purple Passion... it was quite pleasant, it tracked straight, had nice feel and was pleasant to cruise, and he is slammed a fair bit! But the road was smooth and the wind wasnt bad... on a rough road I would probably be digging my fingernails into the steering wheel... and when we did hit that bump in the road on the off-ramp.... Ouch! 3) "Ya cannot break the laws of Phyics" Keith > in the case of our cars, i am starting to feel like this is the b-52 all > over again... it ain't suppose to work, but does. my car is lowered, > (look at the invasion pic in nyssa and you can compare a lot of front > end heights) according to everything i keep reading about caster it > should wander, handle like crap, ride even worse and require new tires > every 1k miles or less. yet, my car/s drives in a straight line, brakes > in a straight line, handles very well, rides as well as my stocker notch > did, and has perfectly acceptable tire life/wear. so, where did i go > wrong to get it right? i don't think i did. every front lowered type 3 > i have had has done this well; as well as my stockers in situations. > that can't be luck. i know that my ghia and my bug did not like > lowering without adding caster, but the type 3s just haven't had the > negative effect... no pun intended! > > -- > Brian--1964 Notch Speedster 2332cc & 1959 Bug > www.geocities.com/menacefye/index.html > Home of the '03 invasion > www.geocities.com/menacefye/invasion.html > > > > ------------------------------------------------ > To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> > For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/ > ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
