Have not yet caught up on the list posts, so I hope this is not repeatative. I like the idea of dropped spindles on a type 3. I realize you can lower the front with the torsion bars and switching the upper and lower bump stops, but that does not get the car low enough.....dwahhaahhaaaa. I like the height (maybe should be lowth) of my car, but in order to achieve this look, the bump stops can not be used at all. Infact, on my car, the PO cut the bump stop mounts off the beam. That I do not like. I have talked to Keith about this and he has driven my car. He will admit that the ride quality is NOT bad (out on the road), but I will admit that the ride quality around town tends to be a bit harsh. I am sure this is probably due to shocks and suspension travel. Now the saving grace is dropped spindles. I can keep my car the same lowth, but still retain the bump stops and original (or close to original) trailing arm angles, which keeps the caster close to what VW intended. Dropped spindles will still affect caster, but do you think it will be as drastic? I wish the caster situation was easily fixable with caster shims from a Type1, but that won't work. The beams are COMPLETELY different. This has been discussed before on the list (specifically John Jaranson - there is info on his website), but I don't think anyone has gotten around to playing with it yet. I was hoping to be able to design caster shims this winter, since I was going to replace my beam, but my winter projects are not looking to promising so far.
