> I'm afraid I have to agree. I really like my AM/SW/FM Blaupunkt, but in the > whole trip to Parma and back I don't think Dave and I listened to it at all. I certainly didn't miss it, but that could be because I don't have a radio in my Variant. I might yet get some 12V active speakers to use with the Sony radio walkman I got at about 1/2 the UK price when I was in Madison, WI. That would be handy and wouldn't need permanent fitting. I've got a couple of Blaupunkt Bremen LW/MW/SW but no FM, so there's not much point in fitting one, though one has an auxiliary input that could be used. I did feel things were quieter when I drove my Variant with Anne and our camping gear to Europe, even with the windows open a few inches to simulate the same situation. We could talk fairly comfortably. We probably had more absorbent materials though - a spare spare-wheel isn't much of a sound-absorber! With windows closed it's much quieter of course. I think at middle-age few of us have good hearing, though my pupils (kids not eyes!) were always surprised how much I could hear when they thought they were whispering quietly enough. ;-) About twice a year for 33 years I have done the hearing audibility experiment, and it has been very apparent how my upper threshold of hearing has become lower. I used to do as well as any of the kids, close to 20KHz, but from around 30 it began to get gradually lower; the most recent one I remember it was down to around 11KHz. So keep those ear defenders on when angle-grinding and your personal and neighbourhood stereos turned down! Apart from the Beatles concert back in the '60s when my ears were ringing for 3 or 4 hours after, my ears haven't really been abused all that much, so the change is all natural ageing. Dave.
