He's absolutely right that the amount of align bore has nothing to do with the oil pump you need. If it does (if oil is leaking out around the OUTSIDE of the bearing) then this is a botched align bore that won't be fixed by any pump. I have very good luck with RIMCO align bores in stock applications. I suspect that John's experience is with much more highly stressed engines. Align bores done by your local shop can be a crap shoot. Don't assume that this is a job that just anyone can do well. Your shop owner is wrong. Stick to the 26mm pump. You still have to do everything else right, but you need to do that anyway.
