[T3] freeway flyer tranny
<x-flowed>the freeway flyer tranny name was given by a tranny shop in the 80s for
units that had a lower rpm 4th gear with 1st-3rd being stock. i talked with
a tranny shop owner last night and he said that he really recommends the
tranny for highway driven cars vs. almost all city driving unless you have
enough torque from a bigger motor. the reason? because, being creatures of
habit, people tend to forget about the 4th gear change at 1st and the shock
load on the motor/tranny from BOGGING is an issue. if you can remember not
to let that happen, by running the 3rd gear rpm a touch higher, then it
isn't an issue. these 'freeway flyer' trannies are not just
superbeetle/late ghia units, they are still 4.12 and 3.88 ring and pinion
units that have a lower rpm 4th. the 4.37 was an early crashbox r & p from
the 59 and earlier bugs and busses.
