Rings do need a little while to "seat" or "bed in". I strongly suggest you don't "Nana" the car. Go and drive it like it has already been run in (VW's aren't supposed to need running in) Just don't over-rev or over heat it. A few hard pulls up a hill or two (with some time in between to make sure it's not getting to hot). The fact that you can smell it when driving, suggests an exhaust leak :-(. The oil light may be due to a loose wire somewhere earthing the light - The oil pressure should not get that much lower where you are slowing down (Unless the engine is at idle - but on a rebuild your pressure should stillbe highenough at idle) Check the wires. Guys I probably don't have more than 200-250 miles on my rebuild. It smells like I am burning oil, mainly on hard acceleration and freeway connectors that have high degree turns. Do the rings just need time to seal? I am not leaking any oil anywhere (yet!), so I can't think of what else it might be. I should be able to smell the difference between running rich on gas (because the exhaust is exhibiting kind of high carbon-"y" deposits), but it smells like oil is getting burnt up. Furthermore, my oil light is switching on during medium to hard deceleration and braking, but I've got enough oil.
