Hi, I took up the car hobby more or less on an impulse. I've never done anything like it before - I am a doctoral student and lecturer in ancient languages and have mostly worked in computer systems administration and programming. I bought a really trashed Type 34 and have been working on it for about 18 months. I've learned mostly from the various books, from asking far too many questions on this list and the Type 34 list (thanks to all for your patience), and from hands on experience. I haven't really messed anything up yet, and I've found that I've gained a great deal of confidence and knowledge on the way, so that now I can almost claim to know what I'm doing. The car being in such a bad way to start with, I think that by the time I finally get it back on the road, there will not be a single part of it that I won't have dismantled, lubricated, cleaned or replaced. I basically wanted to do something more "low-tech" after years of C++ and Unix, and it has been quite an learning experience, as well as lots of fun.
