<x-charset windows-1255>> When my son rides > in the car he says: "Dad why does your car make that noise!". I get mad and > tell him it 30 years old leave it alone :) I wish people got that much consideration for their little foibles (especially from their wives ;~) ) > My 69 did not have this problem at all. Funny you should say that .One of the first things that the owner of that '72 Squareback asked me when I met him on Friday was "does yours clunk when it changes gear?". I think he said his clunked when changing from first to second. On the other hand, my '69 has never shown any sign of clunking. I admit that I haven't driven it much, but I have been really surprised by how smooth the gear change has been. Is it possible that there was some difference in the early and late models that made the later ones more susceptible to this clunking? On the subject of the auto trans, I got around to fixing the starter inhibitor today. In other words, I can now only start the car when it's in neutral. Very neat. It's also almost like a kind of weird immobilizer. I think I'll install another switch on the same wire under the rear seat (you can do that on a Type 34), which would act as a real immobilizer. That should flummox any thief. What kind of switch (amperage or whatever) could I use without burning it out?
