In fact, after setting the timing in this way, I have in each case checked the static timing again back at home and found that for the VW411 (an AP series engine) it is at 10 degrees BTDC and for the Westfalia (a CJ series engine) it is about 8 degrees BTDC. A friend and I have set his 1973 Type3 with a T0 series engine in the same way and the static timing also worked out to be around 8 degrees BTDC.
