My 65 Square is the same combination, Pearl White and red. The seats originally had solid red vinyl on the sides and backs and red "mesh" (which had a black "basketweave" pattern silkscreened onto it) on the seating surfaces only. The piping was also red. The mesh fabric, aka "salt and pepper," was an attempt at breathable vinyl: there were parallel line vents cut into the surface of the vinyl. These parallel cuts caused the fabric to eventually split into something that resembled spaghetti if the car saw too much sun. Mesh pattern vinyl is now being reproduced (without the venting) and I think it's available from TMI. ISP West used to have some NOS red mesh vinyl but I think it's all gone by now. The carpet on all pre-66 Type 3s, except certain Ghias, was medium gray wool squareweave with light gray cloth binding. The floor and tunnel were not carpeted but had a molded rubber mat. TMI or Sewfine can make a squareweave carpet kit for you but it's much more expensive than nylon loop. Sewfine did a great job on mine but I had to send it back a couple of times to have them redo it so it would fit (which they did without complaint). I ended up making patterns for them since the early cars are a little different. Are the red seat covers sold by TMI the original color? 2) For the above color scheme, what was the carpet color? Is it one of the ones TMI sells?<< ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
