This is what I did and it worked VERY well...first soak the thing in liquid 
wrench or other penetrant, let it sit then do it again. Find a LONG bolt 
with the same thread as the adjuster screw. I think its a 12mm not sure of 
pitch though. Screw the bolt in until it bottoms out...then gently start 
attempting to screw it in more. If all goes well the screw should force the 
adjuster starr out. Heating the area around the star may be required.

The car that I did this on I dont think had been sitting for a long time, 
but I could not budge the adjuster any other way. When I used the screw it 
came out almost effortlessly

Grinding from the brakes against the drums? a little is normal (at least it 
always happens with me) with new brakes...a very little though. Make sure 
something else isnt scraping...like the inside of a lug nut on the captive 
spring that holds the show to the back-plate.
