Re: [T3] some splicing advise?

<x-flowed>grrrr....I wrote this huge reply and my browser locked up as I hit "send"

First off...you sure you dont just want to find a harness connector (male and female connector) and use that?

Get some flux, this is a must IMHO. Use small gauge solder, make sure its not acid core. Get some heat shrink, sized to cover each individual wire. Get a peice of heat shrink large enough to cover the entire harness when its done.

You need to tin every wire. You can bend each end in a hook (AFTER YOU HAVE TINNED EVERY WIRE) to connect the two wires together. Make sure you put the heat shrink on the wire before connecting each half together. You will want to secure each end you are soldering together, the second the solder from the tinning melts your connection is going to move all over the place, and you dont want that to happen.

Use flux this will make your life much easier...I dont mean rely on flux core solder, get a seperate can of flux.

Dont keep the heat on too long, this evaporates all the flux and causes the solder to not flow well.

We are not looking for "the bigger the blob, the better the job"

DO NOT move the solder joint after you have removed the heat.

You are looking for a smooth, shiney surface. Anything but a smooth shiney surface means you do not have an optimum solder joint.

Note you will and should see the strands of wire in the solder joint, I do not mean that you have to put enough solder on it to cover all the strands.
