Keep in mind that as cast aluminum has a skin which is somewhat corrosion
resistant. If you polish that off it will rather quickly corrode requiring you to
polish it again. The intake air distributors ARE tempting, but they look very
similar now to what they were like when new. Once you polish them they will
look really quite awful in a couple of years.

My machinist mentioned this to me regarding heads. I was hoping that he
would just glass bead blast the whole things but he told me that he really
hates to do that, preferring to just blast the chamber and I/E ports. The rest
gets solvent cleaned and thus stays in better shape longer.

Your wheels are another matter, they've been polished once and you'll just
have to keep doing them as they get dull.

There IS an alternative: Clear anodizing. This can make a really beautiful
part, but it is likely to be hard to find someone to do it. If any of you are
familiar with Campagnolo, their cranksets are clear anodized as are their
automotive wheels.
