Would it happen quickly enough by wicking to be useful lubrication?
I must shake my old Beetle pushrods and see if the wood rattles.  If it's
fixed, it would have to be by wicking.
I'm not sure which way the oil would need to flow.  There's a lot of oil
around both ends.
Maybe it's for stiffness of the pushrod after all.
