Re: [T3] 69 Fastback, Got Her! Thanks...

<x-flowed>>and Get THIS:

Name's Francis (christened by the original owner) she's a california car that's been in Berkeley since new. Only two owners (we're the third), and the lady we bought it from Never, I repeat Never drove the freeway-highway in the eighteen years she owned her! As timid an old hippy as ever I've met...

This is a beautiful story. It inspired me to share mine. I think there is something about the San Francisco Bay Area that produces these kinds of miracles. Anyway, my girlfriend and I recently became the proud parents of a 1970 Fastback. Turns out that the woman we got it from was the original owner, she had it for 31 years, kept it garaged the entire time in her San Francisco Edwardian. Her grand daughter took care of the transaction and suggested that before we quick decisions that we drive down the street and see the mechanic who had been servicing it for the past 31 years. Turns out the shop is family owned and the son has been taking care of it for about 20 years. Amazing as this may seem, he said the woman brought in the car every 3000 miles for a tune up (the stack of records proved that to be true). He said they didn't come any cleaner, he put the car on the rack and showed me the underside. There was no rust.

His only recommendation was to not abuse the 3 speed automatic tranny but that it was in tip-top shape and would go another 100k miles. The car currently has 94k miles. Interior is original and in great shape. I'm not sure the car saw much driving in the past 5 years, certainly not a lot of highway miles.
