<x-charset iso-8859-1>Hey everyone, just got in from dropping the Notch at the body shop. Lot's of comments, people coming from other shops nearby to ask questions about her, folks stopping by in their cars...It's nice to see that even stripped, the Notch still can turn some heads.Enrique, the owner, said he's restored worse and he had the pics to prove it. I guess mine isn't as bad as some of the other VW's dragged in, maybe there is hope for the old girl after all.AAR, time frame is about 90+ days, with sandblasting, patches welded in, pans repaired, new heater channels welded in and taken to primer. We'll see... Took the trailer back to my buddy's place and met him there to put it behind the house. OH MY....His house has been converted to a shop for his "hobby". He bought the house for his mom, turned the garage in back into a two story workshop with a full set of tools-welders, blasters, metal brake, etc. A 2nd story loft in front of the frame lift to store two cars upstairs, a fully aluminum body AC Cobra on a rotisserie in the one engine bay waitng restoration, an office and a "clean room"- for rebuilding engines- upstairs. A 1950's MGA MK II on a ramp behind the shop "for parts, maybe to rebuild". But wait, it gets worse. Inside the house, in the old garage, an '89 Porsche 930 whale tail ("sorry it's so dirty, I haven't driven it for a while""Hey, don't worry about it"), and in the inside workshop, about half a dozen 427 and 289 Cobra engines that he rebuilds and sells on the side and two or three shelves of Weber carbs and manifolds also for sale (sorry, mostly 48 IDA'a and bigger). I told him that if this is just a hobby, then I don't even count. I even offered to let him adopt me, but no dice. I may be able to weasel in some lift time or maybe borrow a paint booth later on, but he makes me look like a wannabe. I think I may have found my dream home, now if only I could convince the family.... David Walters '73 1600 L Notchback S.
