Just a personal experience here, but I had the same thing happen to me on my Type1 Ghia and on the advice of a few people, I used a different kind of insert called "Save-a-Thread", got it at my FLAPS, it's a heck of a lot sturdier than the helicoil inserts. Didn't take the engine out to change it and never had a problem with that one again.
