The key test can be done with the engine off. So do this first. The engine has to be running to do the voltage test. It is best if everything is warmed up, but you can still do this cold. You have to get the engine running up to medium RPM. Replace the VR if the voltage won't go above 13.5V You can help, the test, by putting a charger on the battery for awhile before you do the test, but you have to take it off while you do the test. The fact that running the headlights seems to make it worse, seems to be pointing in this direction. Do your idiot lights both come on when you turn the key ON and then go out when the engine starts? ______________________________ Well, the battery does not seem to be discharged much if at all. The lights are both on prior to start and both go off after the engine successfully starts. Again, I'm not totally sure that the lights made a difference when it started getting really bad.
