Careful here!  ;-)

It's easy to think that a little piece of hardware is unnecessary, until later 
when you discover to your dismay the critical role it played. Keep in mind 
that there is no better way for the factory to save money than to leave out 
unnecessary parts. Omitted parts never break, never fail, and don't cost 
money. (to paraphrase Bill Fisher.)

It's much safer to assume that the parts the factory paid to install all have a 
function, although you may not appreciate it yet.
