I use a tool like this: http://www.motorworks.com/images/p1337.GIF You put this on the axle nut, put your breaker bar in the other end of the tool, put force on the breaker bar, and WHACK this cast-iron tool with a heavy hammer. I've found that 'PB Blaster' works better than Liquid Wrench, and there's always the propane torch for stubborn fasteners.
